Bangkok Global Surgery Declaration – request for endorsement

Dear all

I am attaching the Bangkok Global Surgery Declaration, proposed initially by the Alliance for Surgery and Anaesthesia Presence at the World Congress of Surgery meeting in Bangkok, August 2015. The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) supports this Declaration, and on behalf of the President, Professor David Watters, we invite all international Surgical and Anaesthesia Colleges and Societies to provide your endorsement also.

The Bangkok Global Surgery Declaration promotes global collaboration among all countries and regions to work towards implementation solutions for ensuring universal access to safe, affordable surgical and anaesthesia care when needed.

During and subsequent to the RACS’ 2015 Annual Scientific Congress in Perth, 23 Colleges and Societies undertook to promote research on access to safe, affordable and timely surgery and report on the WHO’s and the Lancet Commission’s recommended surgical indicators. We now call upon you to endorse the Bangkok Declaration, and support the Ministries of Health in low and middle income countries in your region to incorporate these essential services into their national health plans.

Please consider if your institution can sign and support this Declaration, and confirm by reply email by 02 November so that we can add your signature (to be arranged alphabetically) and logo to the document.

Thank you to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh for confirming your endorsement.
